Emma & Shane

Our Story

A little bit about us both:

Emma is from Ballina, County Mayo and Shane is from Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin. We met in our first year of college at IADT Dun Laoghaire. We both studied the same course and within a couple of months became a couple and have been together almost twelve years now!

Our proposal:

We got engaged in August 2018. We had tickets to see the musical Wicked in the Bord Gais theatre just ahead of Emma's birthday. After finishing work that evening we met down near the theatre. Before we made our way to the theatre, Shane popped the question in front of the Grand Canal.

Our suppliers:

Our cake was from Amazing Cakes in Bray and our flowers were done by a family friend. Our photographer was Rita Slattery and she did an amazing job and made everyone feel at ease! As we had to change our original plans due to Covid restrictions we arranged and supplied our own music and arranged a Zoom/recording of our ceremony for all of our guests who could not attend in person.

Our beauty parade:

Emma's dress was from The Bridal Outlet in Baldoyle and her veil was from Bridal Hall in Ballybrittas. The bridesmaid dresses were from Pamela Scott. Shane and the groomsmen got their suits from Tango's Dress Hire. Hair and make-up were thanks to Powder Room Girls - Maria Breslin and Michelle O'Hare.

Something old, something new?

Something old was a Chupi necklace for Emma which is a replica of the last Irish punt coin to be minted (which was in 1990, her birth year). Something old for Shane were his old Irish coin cufflinks.
Something new was the wedding dress and something blue was a bouquet brooch from Emma's two other bridesmaids who were unable to attend the day due to restrictions at the time.

Our Big Day

Our Humanist ceremony was held in the Poulaphouca suite and our photographs were taken along the lakeside and among the fantastic landscape. We had the Manor House to ourselves for our wedding so we took an opportunity to also get some photographs taken in the beautifully decorated rooms in the Manor House.

For dinner we had a choice of the feather blade of beef or turkey and ham - both were gorgeous! Our guests keep mentioning how fantastic the food was, even now months later and how brilliant the staff were on the day!

We had a fantastic time and although we had a considerably smaller number of guests than originally planned we enjoyed our day so much! Having the Manor House to ourselves meant we could relax and enjoy our day in comfort and everyone still speaks so highly of Tulfarris and the staff who made it such a wonderful day!

Post Wedding celebrations:

We had a mini-moon after the wedding in Cork and Kildare but we hope to go further afield in 2022 for a honeymoon abroad.

Why did we choose Tulfarris?

We chose Tulfarris as it offered everything we were looking for - a beautiful ceremony room and grounds. A bright and airy banquet hall (and post-Covid a lovely alternative in the Manor House) and lots of options in terms of how we wanted to shape our day. Honora and the rest of the team were so helpful and accommodating when we had to reschedule (twice!) due to Covid and were fantastic helping us rearrange and figure out what a smaller wedding would look like.
All of our guests had positive feedback in terms of the service, accommodation, and food, we honestly could not have chosen a better venue!
