5 of the most popular decor themes for Weddings in 2017

"Colours must fit together like pieces of a puzzle or cogs in a wheel” - Hans Hofmann.

The date is set, and the wedding planning is about to begin. You have chosen the beautiful Irish wedding venue in Wicklow, and one of the first decisions you must make in reference to the planning of your wedding is the colour palette. The decor, the cake, the bridesmaid’s dresses, the favours, even the napkins, all depend on this very important choice. Aside from the decision being based solely on your favourite colours, one must consider the season in which the wedding will take place, the latest trends and the organic essence of the chosen venue.

Do you turn to a colour palette inspired by the traditions of Ireland? Maybe a sweet and feminine palette with a touch of rustic? Perhaps an original combination of soft peach and mints? Truthfully, the colour options are infinite. To assist in this often difficult decision, Wicklow resort has compiled a list of the top 5 wedding colour palettes for our brides to be that we found stunning and most amazing. We have chosen one for each season, and a then a touch of Irish folklore to finish the list up.

1. PURPLES AND PLUMS

“If we had no Winter, the Spring would not be so pleasant”-Anne Bradshaw.

Nothing screams lavish like a wedding in a variety of shades of purple. From rich jewel-like amethyst and plum tones to soft lavender, blush and cream, Purple is the elegance of winter. Purple is known for its association with royalty from medieval times and through the reigns of millenniums of kings and queens. Purple can be old and romantic, or modern and sleek. Purple is the colour of a fairy-tale, happily ever after wedding. Whatever your preference, a colour palette of purple is majestic.

2. EXOTIC & TROPICAL

“From golden sunshine to beautiful flowers, summer can warm even the coldest heart.”-Anonymous.

Planning a summer wedding? How about some exotic fruity fun? An aqua-pink palette brings the far away tropics to Ireland. Whether you choose to accent with yellow pineapples or pink flamingos, or make a striking, colourful statement with Orchids, Lilies, and King proteas, summer time colours can be fun.

3. PASTELS

“And Spring arose on the garden fair, Like the Spirit of Love felt everywhere; And each flower and herb on Earth's dark breast rose from the dreams of its wintry rest.”-Percy Bysshe Shelley.

Spring is a great choice for a wedding as it is a time of rebirth and inspiration. The colour palette of this season may be one of my favourites with pretty shades of pinks, sage and white. Just like purple says “royalty”, pink sings “romance”. It’s pretty, with a touch of innocence and purity. An ideal colour combination for a spring wedding.

4. DARK AND DARING

“Fall has arrived. Behold the changing leaves and bursts of colour”-Beliefnet Quotes.

The very essence of Autumn is an entire colour palette in itself. The choices are endless. The scheme we embraced uses copper, grey and black, with small touches of cream and blush tones. For an additional flare, adding greenery makes the copper and black bold and daring. Some believe black isn’t a tone for a wedding but Louis Nevelson describes it perfectly when he states he fell in love with black as “it contains all colours with no negation. It is the most aristocratic colour of all. You can be quite and it contains the whole thing”

5. SOMETHING BLUE

"Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and five pence in your shoe."

This Victorian rhyme and wedding tradition is popular in Ireland and the Celtic Lands. Blue is considered a lucky colour in Ireland. Why not bless your special day with the luck of the Irish? For our final colour palette, envision the beach, the sea and the sky, each with their own unique tones of blue such as sapphire, indigo, and blue-greens. Add driftwood as an accent, and blooms such as Peonies, Roses and Dahlias in neutral shades of cream. Your blue themed wedding will be heavenly, blissful and serene.

Whatever time of the year you choose to celebrate your love, a beautiful array of colours is at your fingertips. Wear your true colours brightly, and let the essence of your spirit shine through. You will remember your wedding the rest of your life. May your memories be in beautiful shades of colour palettes.
